In February 2021, EGRISS, together with UNHCR and UNFPA, held a side event at the UN Statistical Commission focused on the need to improve statelessness statistics. During the event, speakers from countries and regional and international institutions discussed the causes and consequences of statelessness and the growing momentum to address this problematic thanks in part to the UNHCR #IBelong Campaign. Furthermore, the event presented the data gaps in the area of statelessness and the work of the EGRISS in developing International Recommendations on Statelessness Statistics (IROSS) to fill some of these gaps. This report highlights the main conclusions and lessons learned from the event.
