UNHCR’s Global Trends 2020 Report provides demographic information and global trends associated with forced displacement and statelessness as of 2020. In particular, the report provides statistics on refugees, people in refugee-like situation, asylum seekers, Venezuelans displaced abroad, internally displaced persons (IDPs), people in an IDP-like situation, returned refugees, returned IDPs, stateless persons and other persons of concern who do not necessarily fall directly into any of these groups above but to whom UNHCR has extended its protection.
In its 2020 edition, the Global Trends underlines the importance of UNHCR statistics following international standards, such as the International Recommendations on Refugee and IDP Statistics (IRRS & IRIS), to enhance quality of the statistical outputs. The report further highlights the work of the EGRISS to improve statelessness statistics through the development of the International Recommendations on Statelessness Statistics (IROSS).
