This brief was produced by the International Data Alliance for Children on the Move (IDAC), with support from the Kingdom of the Netherlands. A new reference document tackles the complex issue of “children on the move” by providing a much-needed conceptual framework. This resource, aimed at researchers, policymakers, and development organizations, goes beyond simply defining terms – it delves into the data landscape surrounding these vulnerable populations. For statistical definitions, the brief primarily draws from the EGRISS.
Sample scenarios showcase how these terms translate to real-world situations, further illuminating the complexities of data collection. Importantly, it also highlights data gaps, pinpointing where information is lacking for specific populations of children impacted by migration and displacement. Production of this publication was led by UNICEF as Chair of the IDAC Secretariat, in coordination with its fellow IDAC Secretariat members: Eurostat, IOM, OECD and UNHCR.
