This policy brief explores the pivotal role of development finance in addressing the challenges faced by internally displaced persons and supporting the implementation of solutions to internal displacement. It highlights the framework of the International Recommendations on Internally Displaced Persons Statistics (IRIS) and the statistical measure to enable governments to consistently “graduate” IDPs from statistical groupings in development under EGRISS leadership, in collaboration with States affected and partners such as the World Bank, the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees, the IOM and the United Nations Development Programme. Several key areas of development finance relevant to internal displacement are discussed, such as taking internally displaced persons into account in development finance programming and enhancing the capacity of governments to integrate solutions to internal displacement into national development plans.
