The UN Secretary General launched his Action Agenda on Internal Displacement as a response to the rise of internal displacement crises worldwide. The document calls for prompt solutions to protracted internal displacement, improved action towards preventing forced displacement, and provision of adequate protection and assistance services to IDPs.
The agenda also invites for increased and comprehensive efforts to collect, compile, and disseminate high-quality trusted data and analysis on internal displacement. For this purpose, the document highlights IRIS recommendations as a major step forward, offering States common standards and definitions to put in place for the development of improved and strengthened internal displacement data. Moreover, the agenda convenes for a task force of relevant data actors to examine opportunities and barriers for more effective data use to tailor solutions and create a comprehensive process/model to address data-specific issues and gaps.
