The launch of the #IBelong Campaign in 2014 was a strategic forward-looking decision, despite its ambitious goal of ending statelessness within a decade. It contributed to the progress we see today, notably exemplified by the adoption of the International Recommendations on Statelessness Statistics (IROSS) by the UN Statistical Commission in March 2023. These recommendations help guide the production of higher-quality, harmonized statistics that are consistent and comparable across countries.
This report highlights the many achievements and successes of the campaign – from much stronger global consensus on the need to address statelessness to policy reforms that grant women the right to confer nationality to their children and laws that prevent children from being born stateless.
