This article by Olena Shevtsova (State Statistics Office of Ukraine) and Tetyana Tyshchuk (Expert Council at the State Statistics Service of Ukraine) dives into the complexities of measuring internal displacement in Ukraine, presenting figures on the current IDP stock and highlighting some of the challenges associated with data collection on this vulnerable population. After analyzing these issues, the authors propose policy solutions on how to collect data on IDPs based on the International Recommendations on IDP Statistics (IRIS). This will lead to more targeted humanitarian assistance and a better understanding of needs, helping Ukraine adhere to the “leaving no one behind” principle and support the realization of Sustainable Development Agenda-2030 in the country.
