The publication highlights the essentiality of developing methodological guidance to gather timely and comprehensive IDP data as well as acknowledges the operational, conceptual and political challenges faced. It underlines that advocacy and diplomacy ought to be used as preferred tools to ensure continued efforts from state actors to have collaborative and inclusive data collection exercises.
The paper urges the international community to advance the concepts, definitions and framework on internal displacement developed by the Expert Group on Refugee, IDP and Statelessness Statistics (EGRISS) to ensure that these are translated into practice by governments.
