23rd October 2024
The 15th Meeting of the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) was held on 21 to 23 October 2024, in Oslo, Norway. The meeting considered a range of topics – including the final stages of the 2025 comprehensive review of the indicator framework which will result in final changes to be submitted to the UN Statistical Commission in 2025. EGRISS contributed to a session dedicated to inclusive statistical systems and disaggregated data based on a proposal jointly developed by Statistics Norway, the National Statistical Institute of Rwanda, Statistics Moldova, the Joint Data Center and the EGRISS Secretariat.
Co-led by Statistics Moldova and the Secretariat, the presentation highlighted experience from countries pursuing statistical inclusion of refugees (through the example of Moldova’s 2024 census), global trends in terms of statistical inclusion and use of the IRRS, IRIS and IROSS (based on GAIN Survey results), and findings from the recently published methodological paper on the inclusion of refugees, IDPs and stateless persons in priority SDG indicators.
The key findings of the paper’s analysis are significant for current debates at the IAEG-SDGs as they focus on implementation of the framework in the last five years of Agenda 2030 and start discussions on monitoring sustainable development for the next era. Through an examination of the 12 priority indicators identified for forced displacement, as well as an additional 2 indicators identified in the IROSS, the paper shows that no major changes are required to data collection or computation methods required for these specific indicators.
Developed by members of EGRISS’ Technical Subgroup 2 on Methodological Research & Guidance Development, the paper identifies several specific considerations for each indicator that will improve data quality and aims to support and inspire efforts of National Statistical Systems to pursue more inclusive data in support of commitments to leave no one behind.
