The Central African Republic is taking significant steps forward in improving how forcibly displaced persons and those at risk of statelessness are represented in national statistical data. As part of the project “Inclusion of forcibly displaced persons at risk of statelessness in RGPH-4 and MICS7”, the World Bank–UNHCR Joint Data Center on Forced Displacement (JDC) organised a three-day workshop in Bangui for the Central African Institute of Statistics and Economic and Social Studies (ICASEES) and its partners. The goal was to strengthen the technical capacity of participants on good practices for data collection regarding forcibly displaced persons and persons at risk of statelessness, in line with EGRISS’ International Recommendations.
The initiative specifically targeted the Fourth General Population and Housing Census (RGPH-4) and the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS7). Participants learned to apply EGRISS recommendations through practical training on questionnaire design, sampling methodologies, and data collection techniques adapted for displaced populations. The workshop also covered international protection principles and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, ensuring participants understood ethical data collection practices, and incorporated valuable lessons from the 2021 Harmonized Survey of Living Conditions of Households, particularly regarding internally displaced persons inclusion.
