ADB/ADSP – Toward Durable Solutions: Mapping and Analysis of Displacement Data in Asia and the Pacific

This publication examines how more robust national data systems can support durable, inclusive solutions to forced displacement across Asia and the Pacific. A collaboration between the Development Bank (ADB) and Asia Displacement Solutions Platform (ADSP), it analyzes existing data systems and identifies how stronger evidence can inform better policies, programs, and interventions for displaced persons and host communities. By highlighting significant gaps and opportunities, the publication urges governments to step up the collection and integration of displacement data.

The report highlights several key aspects of the International Recommendations on IDP Statistics (IRIS) methodology and emphasizes that EGRISS “currently works on the dissemination and implementation of these recommendations, especially through strengthening national statistical capacity, producing technical guidance, and providing different platforms for peer exchange and learning.”

The report argues that the region needs to move beyond primary reliance on operational data. While acknowledging that “operational data is often used first and foremost by the data producers themselves to inform operations on the ground,” it emphasizes that “operational data production should better integrate the core concepts of sustainability, aiming to (i) ensure ongoing benefits after interventions end and (ii) emphasize projects’ scalability and lasting results.”

Among the report’s, recommendations one specifically addresses EGRISS’ work: “Support increased adherence to international data standards, for example, through integrating EGRISS instruments into its projects and capacity-strengthening activities with national statistical offices, noting that several of its members are ADB DMCs.” It also underscores the importance of regional cooperation in shaping resilient, long-term solutions for displaced people.
