This report summarises the annual High-Level Steering Committee meeting of the Expert Group on Refugee, IDP and Statelessness Statistics (EGRISS), held on 4 March 2026 alongside the 57th session of the UN Statistical Commission. Hosted by the World Bank, the meeting marked the launch of EGRISS’ fourth mandate following a decade of work building a global statistical framework for forced displacement and statelessness.
The report covers a review of key achievements from 2025—including outcomes from the All Members Meeting in Warsaw and the latest GAIN Survey results—as well as priorities for 2026. It captures five strategic themes that emerged from the discussion: standardising identification questions across global data tools; strengthening alignment with wider migration statistics; advancing regional engagement and peer-to-peer learning; communicating the policy impact of statistical progress; and mobilising resources at global and national levels.
The meeting reaffirmed the value of strong partnerships in advancing statistics on refugees, internally displaced persons, and stateless populations, and the central role of EGRISS and the International Recommendations in fostering coherence across the field.
