Terms of Reference
EGRISS’ Terms of Reference (TORs) were extended by the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC) in March 2020, at its 51st session. The Expert Group has as its main objective to improve national and international refugee, internally displaced persons and statelessness statistics through the development of international recommendations on how to produce, compile and disseminate statistics on these populations.
The third phase of EGRISS’ mandate emphasizes the implementation of the International Recommendations on Refugee and IDP Statistics (IRRS and IRIS) as well as the development of the International Recommendations on Statelessness Statistics (IROSS) – the latter being officially incorporated in December 2021 and reflected in the September 2023 approved TORs.
For the third phase, a continuation of the Expert Group until the end of 2025 is envisioned to ensure effective execution of our activities. EGRISS will report back to the UNSC at its 57th session in 2026 when a request to officially extension is foreseen.
