The “EGRISS 2022 Annual Report: Fostering Statistical Inclusion of Forcibly Displaced and Stateless Persons as Global Estimates Rise to Over 100 Million” is the second annual report produced by the Expert Group on Refugee, IDP and Statelessness Statistics (EGRISS). It aims to highlight the main achievements and the collective work of the group between January 2022 – December 2022.
The Report opens with an introduction to the history of the Expert Group and reflects on its current terms of reference, working methodology, membership, governance and institutional setup. Following this, the Report takes a closer look at the International Recommendations on Refugee and IDP Statistics (IRRS and IRIS) and how they can be used to improve statistics on refugees and IDPs. After presenting an overview of the recommendations’ implementation, it then goes onto display a selection of implementation examples from countries and institutional partners and provides a summary of EGRISS’ achievements in 2022, including the launch of the EGRISS e-learning course, technical support offered to countries, and the development of the International Recommendations on Statelessness Statistics (IROSS).
The Report concludes with reflections from the Secretariat highlighting the overall productivity of EGRISS, the noteworthy progress made and the outlook of the Expert Group moving forward. Lastly, the Report presents a selection of key priorities for 2023, including the endorsement of the IROSS and continued strengthening of partnerships with national statistical offices and international partners.
