The “EGRISS 2023 Annual Report: A trilogy of statistical recommendations: towards better visibility of forcibly displaced and stateless persons halfway to 2030” is the third annual report produced by the Expert Group on Refugee, IDP and Statelessness Statistics (EGRISS). The publication highlights the main achievements and the collective work of the group between January and December 2023.
The Report opens with an introduction on the importance of reliable statistics in the context of the halfway point in the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and ongoing global displacement crises. Following this section, the publication dives into the International Recommendations on Statelessness Statistics (IROSS), endorsed by the UN Statistical Commission in 2023. It then showcases how the recommendations are being put into action, presenting examples from various countries and collaborating organisations.
The Report continues outlining EGRISS’ progress on several fronts, such as new standards, improved resources, wider accessibility, new members, and regional focus. Next, it provides a reflection from the Secretariat on these achievements and presents a selection of key priorities for 2024. These next steps include continuing to ensure methodological advancement, investing in dissemination and promoting the use of the Recommendations, and engaging in strategic partnerships to enhance technical support and guidance.
