EGRISS Annual Report 2020-2021: Improving statistics on forced displacement and statelessness during a global pandemic

“EGRISS Annual Report 2020-2021: Improving statistics on forced displacement and statelessness during a global pandemic” is the inaugural annual report of the Expert Group on Refugee, IDP and Statelessness Statistics (EGRISS). It presents the main achievements of the group between April 2020 and December 2021.

Following a brief overview of the history of EGRISS, its governance, membership and working methods, the Report introduces the International Recommendations on Refugee Statistics (IRRS) and the International Recommendations on IDP Statistics (IRIS). It is then divided into two main parts: the first presents progress in terms of the implementation of the international recommendations; and the second provides an overview of the achievements of the group during the reporting period.

The Report ends with a collection of reflections from the perspective of the EGRISS Secretariat and identifies some of the main challenges in fulfilling the third mandate of the group. In closing, it highlights the priorities of the Expert Group for 2022 and the enabling factors required to ensure the success of its work in the year ahead.
