This article looks at the intersections between the areas of law, policy and data collection on internal displacement. It discusses how normative instruments on internal displacement ought to include data provisions as well as the critical links that exist between the three spheres. By drawing from the lessons learned from Colombia and Georgia on the issue, the article further highlights the important progress that has occurred on the progressive acknowledgement of the value of data in the law-and-policy making discourse as well as the current gaps and challenges.
