EGRISS, with generous contributions from the WB-UNHCR Joint Data Center, convened a meeting to finalize the International Recommendations on Statelessness Statistics (IROSS) ahead of submission to the UNSC in 2023. The event occurred in UN City, Copenhagen, with a total of 15 country representatives from Cambodia, Colombia, Norway, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Kenya, Uzbekistan, Mexico, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Thailand, United States, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe and 11 institutional partners present. As part of the discussions, several countries shared good examples and lessons learned in the collection of data on statelessness to support informing further improvements to the IROSS. The meeting concluded with participants volunteering to develop portions of the recommendations for the draft report ahead of the scheduled global consultation in October 2022. Some highlights from the discussion included improvements to the statistical framework, the use of data sources to collect statelessness statistics, and mechanisms to address guidance received from the UN Statistical Commission in 2022. The meeting highlighted growing momentum and interest from participants in the development of the recommendations.
