Statistical Inclusion at the 54th UNSC

28th February – 3rd March 2023

On the 1st March 2023, the World Bank-UNHCR Joint Data Center on Forced Displacement (JDC), in collaboration with the EGRISS Secretariat, organized a side event at the 54th UN Statistical Commission (UNSC), entitled “Inclusion of forcibly displaced in national surveys”. The event drew attention to the challenges and opportunities associated with including forcibly displaced persons in national surveys.

The panel discussion brought together a wide range of perspectives, including Uganda, Chad, the Demographic and Health Surveys Program and UNICEF, to reflect on challenges encountered when pursuing the agenda of statistical inclusion of refugees and IDPs in national surveys. While discussions meaningfully engaged with encountered difficulties, panelists also highlighted the potential strategies that can be implemented to improve statistical inclusion. In addition, panelists explored how the international community can work to better support national efforts to include these populations in national surveys.
