Event Description

The 4th Research Conference on Forced Displacement will take at the Chatrium Grand Bangkok, place in Bangkok, Thailand, on 4-6 June, 2026. The event is organized by the World Bank – UNHCR Joint Data Center on Forced Displacement (JDC) in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics at Chulalongkorn University, UNHCR, and the World Bank. Previous editions of the conference have contributed to advancing JDC’s objectives by fostering the production of quantitative research on forced displacement. They have also provided a platform for engagement between researchers and practitioners, while highlighting thematic, population, and geographic gaps in the evidence base.

This year’s conference continues this collaboration, with a focus on addressing evidence gaps related to forcibly displaced and stateless populations, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

The conference will feature a combination of academic presentations, keynote lectures, and policy-oriented panel discussions. It will address, in particular, the following themes:

  • The operational and policy impact of data and evidence in displacement contexts.
  • Quantitative analysis of the drivers and effects of self-reliance among forcibly displaced and stateless populations, as well as host communities.
  • Pathways to economic inclusion and their impacts, including research on skills development, labor market integration, private sector engagement, and entrepreneurship.
  • Socioeconomic evidence on return, reintegration challenges, and durable solutions for displaced populations.
  • Methodological innovations in quantitative forced displacement research (e.g., sampling and data collection methods).
