Event Description
The 2026 United Nations World Data Forum is planned to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 9 to 12 November 2026. EGRISS is co-leading three sessions on the programme, including Regional innovation to transform statistics on migration and displacement: lessons learned and the road ahead. Register hereĀ for in-person participation by 1 October 2026.
Across Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Europe, regionally tailored engagement and peer exchange have proven their value in strengthening official statistics on migration, displacement, and statelessness ā advancing implementation of the IRRS, IRIS, and IROSS (alongside recommendations on international migration and temporary mobility) through greater awareness, ownership, and capacity among national and regional stakeholders. This session draws on that experience ā including the work of STATAFRIC and regional economic communities in Africa, the Statistical Conference of the Americas (ECLAC) in Latin America, and the UNECE Task Force in Europe ā to take stock of lessons learned and, given the timing and location of the 2026 Forum, to convene partners and co-design a roadmap for sustained regional cooperation on migration and displacement statistics in the Middle East. Co-organised with the African Union’s STATAFRIC, the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS), UNHCR, IOM, and JIPS.
